Born Jamesetta Hawkins in Los Angeles in 1938, Etta James began singing in church and school choirs as a young girl. She was discovered in 1954 by Johnny Otis, a bandleader and music producer, and soon after released her first single, "Roll With Me Henry." In the 1960s, she had a string of hits, including the classic "At Last," which reached number two on the R&B charts. She continued to record and perform for the next five decades, releasing her final album, The Dreamer, in 2011.
