Derek and the Dominoes - Layla

Derek And The Dominoes was an English American blues rock band formed by Eric Clapton, Jim Gordon, Bobby Whitlock, Dave Mason and Carl Radle with guest musician Duane Allman performing partly on the band's only studio album.

The album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs was released in November of 1970 and included the song Layla a collaberation between Eric Clapton, and Jim Gordon with contributions from Duane Allman.

Rita Coolidge who was Jim Gordon's girlfriend at the time of the writing of Layla has also been unofficially credited with coming up with the piano part of the song.

Eric Clapton has been quoted as saying that Duane came up with the main riff in a more rock style of playing than what was originally played.

Layla is not a blues song per say however the artists who wrote and played the original version all were from the "school of blues" that influenced many British and American musicians.
